About
About BrightPath Admissions
BrightPath Admissions is a free matching service for families who want help finding an independent college-admissions counselor. We share clear educational information, then connect families across the US, including immigrant and non-native-English-speaking families, with counselors who may fit their goals and preferences.

Who BrightPath is for
BrightPath is for students and families who are trying to understand the US college-admissions process and want support finding the right kind of help.
Some families are applying to college in the United States for the first time. Some are comparing public and private colleges. Some want guidance on timelines, testing, financial-aid forms, or how to build a balanced college list. Others simply want a trusted way to learn about their options before choosing a counselor.
We are especially focused on making this process easier to understand for families who may not speak English as their first language or who are unfamiliar with how college admissions works in the US.
If that sounds like you, start here: Get matched.
What we do, and what we do not do
We do two things.
- We provide educational information in plain language.
- We offer free matching to independent educational consultants, or IECs, who work directly with families.
An independent educational consultant, or IEC, is a private college-admissions counselor who is not employed by a specific college. IECs may help families understand deadlines, build application plans, discuss college fit, and coach students through the process.
BrightPath is not a counselor, college, university, or admissions office. We do not make admissions decisions. We do not review applications for a college. We do not guarantee admission, scholarships, financial aid, or test-score results.
We also do not complete applications for students. We do not write or edit student essays. Counselors may coach and give feedback, but students must do their own work.

Our honest-matching promise
Families use BrightPath for free. Participating counselors pay a flat fee to be part of our matching network.
That matters because we want our role to stay simple and honest. Our job is to help families understand their options and make informed choices. We are not here to pressure anyone into working with a particular counselor.
Our matching process is built around fit, not hype. We look at practical details like the kind of support a family wants, communication preferences, language needs, and whether a counselor's approach seems aligned with the student's goals.
We encourage families to ask questions before choosing anyone, such as:
- What ages or grade levels do you typically work with?
- How do you communicate with students and parents?
- What parts of the process do you coach on?
- What are your boundaries around student work and essay feedback?
- What fees and timelines should we expect?
A match is an introduction, not a promise. Families decide whether to move forward.
Independent counselors, explained simply
An independent educational consultant, or IEC, works for families, not for a college. That is different from a school counselor at a high school, and different from an admissions officer at a college.
A school counselor may support many students at once and may have limited time. A college admissions officer reads applications for one college and helps that institution build a class. An IEC is hired privately by a family and can offer more individualized guidance, depending on the service.
That guidance may include topics such as:
- building a college list
- understanding application deadlines, including Early Action and Early Decision, or EA and ED
- explaining application systems like the Common Application, or Common App
- discussing academic records such as grade point average, or GPA
- helping families understand financial-aid forms like the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, and the CSS Profile
Not every family needs an IEC. Some students do well using school-based support and free college resources. Our goal is not to convince every family to hire a counselor. Our goal is to help families understand what independent support is, when it may be useful, and how to find it thoughtfully.

BrightPath helps families learn about college admissions and find an independent counselor, for free, but we do not counsel students directly or guarantee results.
Common questions
Is BrightPath Admissions free for families?
Yes. Matching is free for families. If you choose to work with a counselor, that relationship and any fees are handled directly with the counselor.
Does BrightPath give college advice directly?
BrightPath provides educational information and matching only. We do not act as a student's personal college counselor.
Can BrightPath guarantee that a student will get in?
No. No one can honestly guarantee admission, a scholarship amount, financial aid, or a test score.
Do counselors do the student's essays or applications?
No. Counselors may coach and give guidance, but students must complete their own applications and write their own essays.
